Lawyers and Continuances

Although yesterday wasn’t the day for New Yorkers advocating gay marriage, they remain hopeful that this week the Senate will amass the votes needed to pass the bill legalizing gay marriage. The legislature is reconvening today behind closed doors to continue working toward resolution of pending bills, gay marriage being the most hotly debated.

Two years ago the NY Senate voted down a gay marriage proposal, and subsequent efforts to legalize gay marriage have failed in Maryland , New Jersey and Rhode Island .

Both supporters of gay marriage and those who object to gay marriage are expected to return to the Capitol in Albany , NY , today to protest. Both sides demonstrated yesterday inside the Capitol and in the nearby Capitol park, as supporters and opponents had hoped for a final decision.
