New York Assembly Approves Gay Marriage

The New York state Assembly has voted 80 to 63 in favor of the gay marriage bill introduced by Governor Cuomo. The bill now moves to the New York state Senate where it’s expected to be voted on tomorrow.

 Same-sex marriage is legal in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and the District of Columbia . In addition, certain states allow for civil unions, the most recent being Illinois . 

 Gay marriage has been a hotly contested issue in states across the US , which is expected to continue as we approach the presidential and congressional elections next year.
