Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation today which requires California public schools to teach students about the contributions of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people in social studies class.
Under the law, schools must use textbooks and other teaching materials that include the contributions of the GLBT community. Each local school board will be allowed to decide at what grade level the instruction should begin.
