If You Think the US Has Anti-Gay Sentiments, Consider Russia

by Beverly A. Pekala on March 29, 2012

While we don’t have same-sex marriage in most states and we do have DOMA,
we’re definitely not Russia.

Legislation has been proposed by lawmakers in Russia calling for fines
of $16,500 (US) for “spreading homosexual propaganda.” Gay rights
advocates are concerned that the bill would prevent public demonstrations
in support of gay rights.

Lest you think passage of this proposed bill is unlikely, similar legislation has
already been adopted in St. Petersburg, which is Russia’s second largest city.
