Maryland Moves Forward on Gay Marriage, Though Opposition Occurs

by Beverly A. Pekala on February 23, 2012

Legislation in Maryland might move forward tomorrow, when the Senate is expected to pass the bill legalizing gay marriage. However, amendments to the law being considered include those which would extend religious liberties as well as delay the effective date of the new law to 2013.
Some opponents say that if the law passes tomorrow they will seek a voter referendum to repeal it. Last year Maryland sought unsuccessfully to legalize gay marriage.
