The United States Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in 4 cases dealing with same-sex marriage. These cases began in Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee but have been consolidated before the Court into 1 case, which is known as Obergefell v Hodges.
Countless briefs have been filed and various legal rationales will be presented to the Court. However, the cases come down to 2 basic questions:
1. Is each state legally required to perform same-sex marriages?
2. Is each state legally required to honor same-sex marriages performed in other states?
Although the Court will hear from the lawyers on April 28, 2015, the Justices are not expected
to issue a ruling until June or the beginning of July, 2015.
Stay tuned.
